Update October 7th the big move happened, we are here in sunny Ventnor and the new EWM workshop is under construction.
We moved on the 20th September, started clearing bamboo for the new workshop with 4 plus days of digging, finally saw the bamboo jungle gone and 2 Japanese soldiers surrender who still thought the war was on !
Steve Renwick of BZM was here last week for 7 hard days digging and building and together, he built and I laboured, the new EWM workshop came out of the ground.
Still I have to ship lap the outsides, build a small deck in front of the Bi folding doors fitted to the front.
This week we are fitting electrics and starting to fit out the new workshop. Steve Knight a dear old friend is here helping.
We still don’t have Internet here at the new house yet, which has been an interesting experience, 20 days with out and counting…….reconnection to the known world is promised for the 10th October………………
A few pictures of the workshop taking shape……… Once we are up and running fully, I will share an article on the build. But, a small taster as the new workshop, its bi folding doors open up onto the most spectacular view over the sea. I have some work to do trimming some of the trees on our plot to make even better use of the views from the new workshop…..
It has long been my dream to live and work beside the sea, to have my workshop over looking the ocean. To see the ocean, smell and experience the sea every day, in all its glory, in all weathers both day and night is the most fantastic thing, better than any medicine in a bottle! I know it will drive the creative juices in future. Truly blessed am I to be making that dream come true and blessed to have good friends to help me make that dream a reality……
Thank you to all my customers who have placed orders with us, despite knowing we are moving house and business, your patience will be rewarded once we get services back up and running again. I estimate another 2 weeks are needed till that happens. So, our target date for re opening and work starting on back orders is 20th October………
Jobs at EWM. During the move and build up to it, I was privileged to meet a number of good people who applied to come and work with me at EWM, here in Ventnor. I will introduce the new chap properly later once we get EWM running again.
Shows. We have deliberately dropped out of SELWG for the reason of moving. We plan to have a presence at Crisis, how much depends on so many other factors. We shall be at Warfare in Reading, as normal. We have also committed to attend York in Feb 2020, Beach head and Hammerhead in March. More will follow as plans develop. I intend to visit the same number of shows as this year. I do enjoy shows so much these days and have no plans to stop or reduce the number of shows EWM attend.
I do thank you for your patience and understanding as we move the business and my NEW home, to the Isle of Wight, in Ventnor. It is a place beside the sea, known locally as “the Edge of the world” and for some of its unusual, creative and interesting characters and inhabitants. I think I’m going to fit in just fine.
New things will be delayed, but the odd moment may occur to allow the further development of such new creations…………..Here is what we have in development:
Belgian Motorcycle Tricar personnel carrier and AA gun platform. We have also made the Maxim MMG carrier as well. Plans are to do a captured version as well with German crews. These are ready but will be released close to the new workshop opening dates.
Belgian FN 63 tractor and trucks.
Polish Fiat 508 field cars and pick up trucks. Polish mobile SP anti -aircraft guns and crews. still ongoing but very close to completion.
Becker German conversion of the French P107 armored personnel carrier, mortar unit, ambulance and Pak carrier versions. I’m working on the hull, with its unusual shape, being a single piece casting …we shall see. Still ongoing……..
I also have a desire to list and load all the EWM Commonwealth early war infantry types that are made, but not fully photographed and listed on the site. Wow, there are lots and I found some masters I have never molded so, lots to come….
Australians will follow as well as mid war British for Italy and late north Africa and far east.
So, hopefully that will wet the appetite, so watch out for updates?
Remember, its our job to tempt you………..and make you smile. I hope to be better able to do that once I have moved and set up in sunny Ventnor……
PS – I’m very close to the location of the German Raid on one of our RADAR stations in WW2, so “battlefield tours” may be organised in 2020….?
